Case Study - The Quay Complex

The Quay Complex in Musselburgh has a Healthclub, Swimming pool, Restaurants and Conferencing and Banqueting facilities. In April 2007 The Quayside, as it was known then, was purchased by Charan Gill MBE. The site was redesigned and a refurbishment program was initiated. A significant part of the refit of course included the installation of the establishment's I.T. infrastructure, and Axial I.T. was commissioned to supervise and manage this part of the project.

Axial carried out an initial survey and also talked to key staff within the Quay to make sure that I.T. requirements were clearly defined. Based on this, we made a series of recommendations relating to upgrades and changes to the venue's existing computing and network systems.

The Axial recommendations were:
(i) An upgrade of the existing Gladstone MRM customer membership system for the leisure complex.
(ii) Replacement of the antiquated EPOS system to a new one with more relevant features - we recommended the MaitreD solution from Posera based on its proven track record.
(iii) Installation of an HP Proliant Server, equipped with MS Windows Server, and an automated backup solution that saved the backups to an offsite server - thus removing any manual requirements for the staff to change backup media and manage its safe storage.
(iv) An install of a network cable infrastructure with the necessary data points to accommodate the above.

Axial I.T. then produced detailed cabling diagrams and liaised with the contractors to ensure the network cabling and data termination points were all installed as required. A new HP Proliant Server with Microsoft Window Server with a fully automated offsite Backup system was installed. Axial liaised with Gladstone MRM and Posera as well as the contractors on site to ensure that all aspects of the install went smoothly.

With the customer always in mind, Axial suggested and then implemented some enhancements to help business, such as installation of a wireless hotspot, and also a feed from a computer to the large Plasma Screen monitor so that venue related announcements could be displayed in the lobby as visitors arrived.

Charan Gill, MBE commented "I always found the Axial IT guys to be dependable and reliable. They know what they are doing, and they give that extra bit of attention to detail.. I would recommend Bindi and his team without hesitation."
